5G Networks for Experimentation
D3IP is enabling 5G experimentation utilising a range of technologies to support innovation. We facilitate access to 5G Standalone (SA) networks: these closed environments can be configured to suit the experimentation needs of the user, which makes them ideal when it comes to defence applications.
Telecoms Test Accelerator
The Telecoms Test Accelerator is focused on increasing the security of 5G, IoT, sensors, and Connected Places. Based in Dorset Innovation Park, it provides an operational co-creation space where SMEs, enterprises, academic institutions, and national bodies can work collaboratively to understand the threats and opportunities that come from exploiting 5G and related technologies.
Utilise access to dark fibre connectivity, office space, workshops, and a faraday cage, plus open land and air space. We operate multiple 5G SA networks from a facility in Dorset Innovation Park, Winfrith Newburgh.
Specialist Technologies
D3IP is exploring the potential Tactical 5G represents to public sector organisations. ‘5G SA in a box’ enables secure communications and has numerous applications for customers in defence, law enforcement, and national security. This technology presents an exciting opportunity and is already garnering huge amounts of interest.
Another area of interest is millimetre (mm) Wave technology. While it doesn’t have the range or penetration of 5G, the high capacity and low latency of mmWave has plenty to offer, particularly when we consider the possibility of smart cities and automated transport becoming more common across the western world.
5G Research Projects
Through its sister brand, D3IP is – and has been – engaging in collaborative projects to probe the opportunities available through 5G technologies. Through the 5G RuralDorset project, we joined a consortium in exploring how these networks can improve the lives and safety of people living in rural area, while the exciting DONE project is helping to make 5G software cheaper and easier to develop.
